'Casita del Mar', as its name suggests is a 'cottage by the sea', situated at the bottom of infamous hilly Mallams and has a four star 'enjoyEngland' grading. The property was built around 150 years ago and has recently been refurbished in a mix of contemporary and vintage style to suit all tastes and always with comfort a priority. Step outside the front door, look left and you will be greeted with stunning views of the sea. You enter the Portland Stone walled lounge with seating for six on leather sofas and a wood burner stove for winter (initial basket of logs supplied from October to March). There is a TV with Freeview channels, DVD player and a radio/CD. Leading off from the lounge you enter the dining room with pine table and chairs. There are shelves of books and DVD's for adults and children. Around the corner you are greeted with a stylish modern kitchen with huge inventory of gas hob, electric oven, fridge/freezer, microwave cooker, cafetiere, kettle, toaster, smoothie maker and a washing machine. Beyond the kitchen we find a contemporary modern bathroom with bath and shower, basin and toilet.
The courtyard garden leads off from the kitchen and provides ample alfresco dining for six. Up a few steps and you come to the Terrace with barbecue and glimpses of the sea.
Leading upstairs from the entrance lobby we get to a first floor landing with two bedrooms. The master bedroom with its painted pine floor has a sturdy classic iron double bed with really comfortable mattress complete with duvet, pillows and cotton linen. Across the corridor is a bright and airy twin bedded room. The beds are full size, suitable for adults or children of any age and there's plenty of storage and hanging space.
Up the last set of stairs the final twin bedded room reveals itself as a contemporary, minimalist style with painted floors and really comfortable beds.Read less
Fortuneswell covers quite a large area, really from the Heights Hotel at the top of the island with its amazing views along Chesil Beach to the bottom of the hill where it blends into Chiswell. As you descend from the Heights you will see a statue by artist and sculptor Joanna Szuwalska title "The Spirit of Portland". Fortuneswell has many shops and along High Street you will be able to find "Isle of Portland Statues" for sale, all hand made.Read more
Once again the walking from Fortuneswell is good but do remember you are on a slope so even if the walking is easy on the way down remember the walk back! Chesil Beach is easily accessable from Fortuneswell, but turning up the hill gives you many different options for some interesting walks to the top of the island.
There are several pubs, restaurants and takeaways all available within Fortuneswell so you should find something to suit both your taste and pocket and all within walking distance.Read less
