Ammonite Cottage is a traditional Portland cottage in Fortuneswell and just a few minutes walk to Chesil Cove. There is plenty to do in Portland. The walking is excellent with stunning coastal views on almost all routes. Take a walk through Tout Quarry Sculpture Park and combine the outdoors with artworks dotted around the trails with new art being added all the time. There are 3 lighthouses on Portland with one now a bird observatory and nature centre and the active one having a visitor centre right at Portland Bill where you can also indulge in a great lunch or cream tea at the Lobster Pot. Plenty of water sports on offer with the National Sailing Academy on Portland harbour so try windsurfing, sailing, kite surfing, paddle boarding or diving. The fishing is also good with several spots around Portland holding record sized fish. Visit Portland Museum, relax on Church Ope beach, discover the pirate graves or take an evening stroll along Chesil Beach.
The accommodation at Ammonite Cottage comprises of a sitting room with dining area equipped with a TV, CD player, DVD player and WiFi enabled throughout. The kitchen has an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine with a door leading to the courtyard. Up some cottage style stairs to the bedrooms where you will find a king size double and a twin. The bathroom has a bath, separate shower, basin and toilet. A cot and highchair can be provided upon request.
Outside is a back yard with stone steps leading to a terraced area. There is roadside parking. Your fuel, power, bed linen and towels are all included in the price.
Fortuneswell covers quite a large area, really from the Heights Hotel at the top of the island with its amazing views along Chesil Beach to the bottom of the hill where it blends into Chiswell. As you descend from the Heights you will see a statue by artist and sculptor Joanna Szuwalska title "The Spirit of Portland". Fortuneswell has many shops and along High Street you will be able to find "Isle of Portland Statues" for sale, all hand made.Read more
Once again the walking from Fortuneswell is good but do remember you are on a slope so even if the walking is easy on the way down remember the walk back! Chesil Beach is easily accessable from Fortuneswell, but turning up the hill gives you many different options for some interesting walks to the top of the island.
There are several pubs, restaurants and takeaways all available within Fortuneswell so you should find something to suit both your taste and pocket and all within walking distance.Read less
