Description

Jurassica House is part of our Olympic legacy, home to the Swedish sailing team during the sailing events in 2012. A great location for water sports enthusiasts, walkers, cyclists, rock climbing, bird watching and of course, perfect for simply relaxing.
Accommodating up to eight guests, there are four bedrooms (two super king large doubles and two twin rooms). Spread over four floors with the impressive master suite bedroom, dressing room and en-suite on the top floor. The master suite has double doors leading to a balcony offering stunning views over Chesil beach.
The living room also offers beautiful views over Chesil Beach, extending out across the English Channel, The Fleet and Weymouth Bay. Wonderful to watch the sunset of an evening, enjoy a quiet moment reading a book or perhaps planning a surprise itinerary for the next day.
The house has been furnished to a high standard throughout and the kitchen is particularly well stocked – a real home from home. The spacious dining area opens up with double doors onto an enclosed garden, great for children and perfect for guests to enjoy cooking, eating and relaxing together.
The location is super, with local shops, pubs and restaurants a convenient 5-minute stroll away. You can reach the International Marina and the National Sailing Academy within the same time. For active holiday guests, kite surfing, sailing, paddle-boarding, diving and windsurfing are among the water sports available. At the end of the road in Castletown is Osprey Leisure Centre, offering an indoor swimming pool, gym, squash courts and other leisure activities. You will also find historic Portland Castle, Castletown beach and the D-Day Museum.
Free tennis courts are available in Victoria Park, just across the road from Jurassica House.
At the top of the isle is the iconic Portland Bill lighthouse, where you will find a couple of restaurants and cafés serving refreshments. The Isle of Portland is a walker’s delight with many rare butterflies and birds only seen on the Isle of Portland.
The traditional Georgian seaside town of Weymouth can be reached within a 15-minute drive or you can catch the cute ferry from Castletown, which takes you across the water to the heart of Weymouth Harbour. The glorious golden sandy beach appeals to families with traditional Punch and Judy shows, donkey rides, trampolines and ice cream parlours. You may also find fine dining with oysters and champagne at the quayside.
Weymouth offers an abundance of high street shops, with a large department store alongside small independent shops, boutiques and restaurants. Brimming with attractions for family fun, visit the Sea Life Park and Marine Sanctuary or take in a show at the Pavilion Theatre.

Area Details

Fortuneswell

Fortuneswell covers quite a large area. From just below the top of the island with its amazing views along Chesil Beach to the bottom of the hill where it blends into Chiswell. As you descend from the Heights Hotel you will see the Olympic Rings sculpture to commemorate the 2012 Olympics. Portland hosted the sailing and windsurfing events. Further down you will see a statue by a local artist titled "The Spirit of Portland" with more great views along Chesil Beach. Fortuneswell has many shops including a Co-op, Boots and the Royal Manor Theatre.

The walking from Fortuneswell is good but do remember you are on a slope. Therefore, an easy walk one way will be harder on the way back! Walk to the High Angle Battery, an 18th-century gun emplacement. Tout Quarry Nature Reserve and Sculpture Park are opposite the Heights Hotel. Artists have been creating sculptures to leave around the park since 1983. Famous sculptures include the Falling Man by Sir Antony Gormley. Chesil Beach is easily accessible if you fancy a walk along the sea. There are several pubs, restaurants and takeaways all available within Fortuneswell. A short walk to Chiswell gives you many more options to eat out and all within walking distance.
